Mac Miller is apparently leaving Rostrum Records, the independent label that helped convert his hype as a mixtape whiz-kid into a chart-topper with his 2011 debut album “Blue Slide Park”. The Pittsburgh artist’s original contract with Rostum has expired, and won’t be renewed, according to MTV. There’s no talk yet on whether the rapper has another label-home in mind. “Rostrum is my family. That is forever,” Mac said. “No matter what, we will always work together.
We moved mountains and I can only see them continuing that tradition. I am grateful for everything I learned and am always here for whatever.” The music company signed Miller in 2010 following the release of his breakthrough mixtape 'K.I.D.S.' (Kickin' Incredibly Dope Shit). The following year his debut 'Blue Slide Park' (distributed by INgrooves via Fontana Distribution) on The Billboard 200, shifting more than 144,000 copies in its first week.
It was a rare accomplishment indeed. The last and only previous time an independently distributed debut album hit No. 1 was Tha Dogg Pound's 'Dogg Food,' back on Nov.
18, 1995 (released on Death Row/Interscope, but independently distributed via Priority). The following year, in 2012, the then-20-year-old cracked Billboard's list.

His 2013 follow-up 'Watching Movies With The Sound Off,' enjoyed a solid arrival at No. 3 with 102,000 sales. It was kept off the top spot by two other heavy-hitting rap albums, Kanye West’s 'Yeezus' and J. Cole’s 'Born Sinner.' In the same year, Miller's career kicked into another gear when he was the focus of an MTV series, 'Mac Miller & The Most Dope Family.'
Rostrum still has the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Vali, Boaz, Leon Thomas, Donora and Teamate. “Mac is an incredible artist and has a bright career ahead of him,” comments Rostrum founder and CEO Benjy Grinberg. “We wish him nothing but the best in the future.”.

As loved ones and fans continue to the of, those who worked closest with him - and helped launch the rapper out of his native Pittsburgh - are taking a moment to reflect on his artistry and his devotion to it. Benjy Grinberg, president of Rostrum Records, signed a young Miller to his burgeoning label in 2010. He shared the following statement with Billboard following the death of his protege and friend, who died on Sept. 7 at the age of 26.
Mac was music. It dripped out of his pores. He was the most talented person I've ever met. But even more importantly, he was a wonderful person. Through all the success, he remained the caring, earnest, funny, deep, complex, and loving person we all knew from the beginning.
